Name: Yennefer of Vengerberg
Door: Left: Spring Forward

Canon: The Witcher (Netflix series)
Canon Point: post-Season 2, after defeating Voleth Meir at Kaer Morhen and briefly encountering the Wild Hunt before agreeing to train Ciri

Age: 80s; physically looks closer to being in her 20s
Appearance: Here.

History: Here.
Personality:

- GREED: The most important thing to remember about Yennefer is that she has always had a particular fixation with power and control — because she started out in a place in her life in possession of neither of them. Growing up with a distinguishable disability in part due to her quarter-elf heritage, she frequently found herself on the receiving end of scorn and mockery, and it was in a moment of great personal distress that she first demonstrated her promise in being able to wield magic — or Chaos, as it is known in The Witcher. Ending up at Aretuza, the academy where sorceresses learn to hone their abilities, introduced her to tempting amounts of power hovering just within her reach, but Yennefer's greed compelled her to behave calculatedly at Aretuza, especially among her fellow students, if it meant she'd ascend to sorceress.

- SELFISH: After Sodden Hill, Yennefer's selfishness reaches new depths. After a significant unleashing of her Chaos leads to a complete depletion of her power, she ends up in the most vulnerable position she's been in since her earliest years of life. It also puts her in a place of sheer desperation, willing to do anything — at any cost — in order to regain her magic. This leads her to the demon Voleth Meir, who extends a tantalizing offer: handing over the powerful young woman known as Ciri, in exchange for the return of Yennefer's Chaos. At the time, Yen isn't aware of Ciri's connection to Geralt, but even once she discovers it for herself, it doesn't stop her from absconding with the girl in an effort to deliver her to the Deathless Mother so that she can get her own power back once and for all. Although she later reconsiders this decision after witnessing how special Ciri is firsthand, and commits herself to train the girl in order to help her use her own magic, Geralt is still furious with her for her self-serving decision, and Yennefer's actions will undoubtedly have ripple effects that carry into their future.

- EMOTIONALLY DISTANT: Yennefer's closest relationship, with Geralt, is complicated on a number of levels — not just because she cares for him deeply, but because she doesn't believe she can trust those emotions. When Geralt confesses to making his wish with the djinn, it cuts straight to the heart of Yennefer's greatest fear — that her feelings have been manipulated and beyond her own ability to control them. This leaves her questioning the truth of their history, and rather than allow herself to show any vulnerability she elects to do the one thing that she does know is by her own choice: she embraces her capacity for distancing herself from others on an emotional level and turns her back on him. Discovering a way to undo the result of Geralt's wish, like reversing her infertility, is something else Yennefer has long felt motivated to do as a means of taking back control over her person — but at what cost?

+ AMBITION: Ultimately, Yennefer's ambitiousness is her singular strongest trait. It's defined her for much of her early life as she ascended to become a sorceress, and it serves as the motivation for most of her decisions — even at the cost of others. But it's also contributed to some of her lowest moments, and it's rooted in a traumatic history that she would prefer not to look back on. Time will tell if she can relinquish the tight grip she maintains on herself and her power; it may take her finally being willing to trust the one person who matters most, as well as opening herself up to something she's never been able to make happen on her own: a family, and one that can show her that it's possible to be both ambitious without resorting to ruthlessness. The good news is that she starts to make important moves toward this revelation for herself shortly before her arrival in Duplicity, demonstrating that she has learned from her previous transgressions — and that the most prominent aspect of her personality can be a positive one, not wielded at the expense of others.

Powers and Abilities: From The Witcher wikia: Chaos (also known as the Force, Power, or primordial Chaos) is the power which is harnessed and used by mages and sorceresses. They can extract magical energy from the four elements, transport themselves long distances and heal, as well as kill, in the blink of an eye. They have extensive scientific and political knowledge; in the latter respect, many mages are the equals of rulers. Many of them remained royal advisors, sometimes even ruling countries from behind the scenes.

In the series, Yennefer is able to draw upon Chaos in order to perform several feats, including enchanting an entire town under her will, bottling lightning, taking life out of one thing and placing it into another, healing injuries, summoning a djinn, and creating portals to travel between two different places, among other things. The very principle of Chaos, though, creates the need for some form of balance to offset the power that is being harnessed to perform various acts. After Yennefer summons an enormous amount of fire in order to destroy enemy forces at the Battle of Sodden Hill, the consequences (as revealed at the beginning of Season 2) are the depletion of her power entirely, leaving her unable to access the source of Chaos and channel any magic whatsoever. However, when she performs an act selfless enough to see her magic restored by the end, sacrificing her body to trick Voleth Meir into possessing her so that the creature will relinquish control over Ciri, it results in her Chaos being returned to her after the Deathless Mother is vanquished.

Apart from her magical abilities, Yennefer has light training with swords and is seen to be quite capable of defending herself in combat as a worthy fighter even alongside Geralt; she also has several decades of political experience, having skillfully navigated life at royal court while serving the king of Aedirn as his mage for thirty years.
